'round taupo

we ran the relay around taupo (again) this year. and it rocked. i was so much more prepared this time around, although i can't say the same for mark. we both ran the legs we ran last year, but each also ran the leg after. 5.5ks + 7.0ks for me. and 6.5ks and 7.2ks for mark. so all in all the longest road race i've ever done. and i didn't stop once, which for me is a bit of a feat. we both enjoyed it so much (crazy! i know) we've decided to run the half-marathon in wellington in june. boo-yah.

the relay started at 2:30am (an hour earlier than last year). josh ran the first leg, and since we gave him a ride from welli to taupo (and got caught in traffic) and left on the later side, we're not sure he got as much rest as he could have. although the ride was a good one, it was long. we passed the time listening to 'flight of the conchords' who are freakin' hilarious by the way and looking for rainbows. the weather was rather wet, so the chances for rainbows were high and the landscape didn't disappoint. no siree.

we finished 3rd in the relay not including the elite runners (who start an hour later than we do). we finished the approximately 150ks in 12 hours and 30 minutes. we were pretty stoked because we also beat the macquarie team (who have often made up half of our team in the past), as it was the first year alliancebernstein were able to pull their own team together (with a couple of ringers, i believe, from the other side). we did well, and i had a blast rockin' out to my ipod. i finished in less than an hour so i was happy. and mark worked it up the hardest hill in the race. no worries, mate ;)

we had a beautiful natural mineral hotpool at the resort we were staying at so we relaxed our muscles in that after a big lunch. dinner with the team was fun at the good 'ol caboose lodge. and of course so was the debauchery that ensued in taupo town later that evening. i brought out the running man, and carrick exhibited some classic original dance moves on the floor. good times all around.
