the bosox do it again
you all know i'm a huge red sox fan. and the last few weeks have been more than exciting. watching the red sox come back from a 3-1 deficit to win the american league penant against the indians. they won the last three games with a combined score of 30-5. talk about dominating. some key contributors were the rookies of the team, including ellsbury, pedroia and papelbon. they rock.
of course the series (the world series) against the rockies was sweet, because we won. but not very exciting, since we swept them in 4. i was getting comments about the red sox not being able to handle the "cold Denver air". and i'll give you it was cold, but that sure as heck couldn't keep the red sox down. solid hitting, good defense and some great plays (both with the bat and in the field).
anyways, i'm starting to feel like a pretty big red sox, baseball geek, so i'll stop it here. i'm stoked they've done it again. francona (the second only coach to win two world series in his career -- bill carrigan did it first in 1915/16) deserves it and it was so great to see them win. and lowell more than deserved the mvp title. he rocks, too. i'll say some of the kiwis at work were hearing all about it as it was happening (games are on around 1pm our time) -- i had the tv (that is usually playing rugby or cricket) playing world series baseball. boo-yah.
update: mark has just informed me francona is only the second red sox coach to have won two world series (a small detail i left out). talk about a kiwi who has embraced the american sport of baseball.
