death in the family
so there's been a death in the family. flipper. our goldfish.
flipper was a present from my friend deborah at amp capital investors (new zealand) limited ("amp capital investors"). the fish grew out of a joke among workmates. and was related to the scene in jerry maguire (after he's written his 'memo' and gets the boot) and he grabs the goldfish from the tank and shouts 'i'm outta here, who's coming with me?'. he takes flipper, and renee zellwegger says 'i'll go with you'. and they go, and live happily ever after. ha. funny times. so in good spirit, flipper was given to me during my final team lunch at capitol. it chilled in a bowl while we ate, and then he came home with me.
he lived in a large glass measuring cup for about a week until we got it a proper tank and a buddy, another black goldfish named "bubba". we got them nice plants and pretty stones to rest at the bottom. the animates employee who set us up with our goldfish gear told me to feed the fish every other day. up until that point, i had been feeding flipper twice a day. not a lot, as rumor has it 'over-feeding' is the number one cause of death for goldfish. anyways, on friday morning, flipper was looking a little crook at the bottom of the tank -- no movement. i was sad. mark scooped him out and flushed him down the toilet. he says, flipper was probably buddhist so he'll come back as a cat or bird (or something). i think bubba is lonely now, and i want another fish. but it's possible, bubba wants the whole tank to herself. so we might wait on it.
